Understanding the PM Role
Again, I will quote from Tata-McGraw-Hill book on Project Management,"In some ways, leading a project is much like leading a department: you need to coordinate the efforts of people with diverse backgrounds and skills in hopes of getting the best overall result. But, in other ways, leading a project is very different. For one thing, the people you're bringing together may not know each other. Second, a project by definition is unique; it has never been done before.Third, unlike a department head, a project leader may have no direct authority or control over the members of the team."www.ebeescorp.com
"To some extent , project success will depend on personality traits like honesty, tolerance for ambiguity, and openness. But equally important are the skills required to make a process go smoothly:paying constant attention to communication ( making sure that you, the project sponsors, and the team members are clear on boundaries and expectations), documenting the project process( task, responsibilities, relationships), and understanding customer and business needs.
So, as described earlier for any project success,www.ebeescorp.com we require honest and open team.We have always found freshers as the most open, honest & tolerant to ambiguity. We did a road project at Satara and we sent a fresher, from a reputed institution for the execution. It was executed with utmost honesty & we completed the project on time.
Our company is into training as well so we train students in many fields and we place our students in many companies. We have sent students trained by us to many companies. All those students taken by companies, who were freshers are performing very well. I will again come back to the original point, purpose of telling about placement, is not to promote the company. But, of our companies 12 years of experience, we have found this to be true.
Now, the question will arise, how a fresher will acquire the experience and skill sets required. They need to guided by a experienced person for some time. But, all have the caliber to execute the project.
This has happened time and again with me as a project manager, once executing a road project in Ambala, I was given a totally new team with different skill sets to execute a road project. All were freshers. The project was executed very well. As, it was very easy to define roles for a team of freshers. Then, freshers are always highly motivated. Thirdly, fresher always stick to their job responsibilities.
The team should always comprise of maximum freshers and less and trusted experienced professionals.
