Project Management in Indian Construction Industry
How do we use project management in Indian construction industry. Are we following the rules of project management in true sense. So, the first question which comes to our mind is, What is project management?
Is it applicable to civil or mechanical or IT?
So, I would say, it is applicable to every domain. For a very long time , I have been saying that project management professionals are not domain bound. Or in other way, they are not restricted to any domain.
We have been training project management & project management software'shttp://www.ebeescorp.com/projectmanagement.html for the last ten years. We have given consultancy, as well.
Thus, we have very fair idea of implementation of project management in India.
Let me come to my first question, what is project management?
Project management can be defined as the adept use of techniques and skills (hard & soft) in planning and controlling tasks and resources needed for the project, from both inside & outside of organization, to achieve result.
I should say some would understand the definition & some would not.
Lets, simplify it!
Whatever, we do in our life time is a project. So, in order to achieve a result, we have to use some skills or techniques in adept manner. Means to the fullest of the capability.
So, lets apply the same to a civil project, to complete a project ,we have to use skills or techniques in adept manner.

Why do projects go wrong?
There can be many reasons why projects go wrong. The most common reasons are as follows:
a) Project goals are not clearly defined.
b) There can be constraints on the completion of projects arising from the different objectives of:
- short time scale
- Resources availability
- Quality factors
- Human factors
Lets take an example of project goals not defined, many companies in India, doing construction work will discuss about project management consultancy http://projectmanagement.ebeescorp.com/ but, their emphasis will remain only in the meetings.
Many times,we have seen that companies will unnecessarily delay payments to vendor, due to the methodology adopted.
Many company's adopt modern technology to simplify the process and bring transparency to the process. But, we have seen that they make the process very tedious and the whole objective is lost.
These companies are big corporate and they end up working as a government organization,which is filled of red tape.
Whereas I have come across two companies not run by management but the owner of the companies.
These companies have progressed too much in a short span of time. Their all projects are completing ahead of time.So, that means their goal is clear, whereas companies run by management sometimes lack the basic goal.
